...with a car that’s fuck ugly.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
This one is the nicest 353 I’ve seen in many, many years. And it’s the exact version i want. It’s also expensive and on the other side of the country. :’(

Who cares if it is ugly or not? If you like it, can get it, and have a reason to get it, then get it!!

Me too.

Isn’t that the white car that whatshisface had in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off?

I thought that was an Alfetta, not a Wartburg...

how hard to find parts?

Not too bad. My grandad still has a bunch from when he had a Wartburg. I noticed a huge pile of Wartburg cyliner heads in his shed. :D

Never seen that movie, but it’s very unlikely.

Ugly? You mean awesome, right?

UGLY!?!? I’m with you in your weird tastes, so I also think it’s awesome! I mean...the engine...the radiator is behind it! How weird is that!!!
Plus, any car that is pronounced “Vartburg” which is similar to “Fartburg” is a win for the 8-year-old in me! :P

Nope. That was an alfa I think.

I prefer the wagon, and also ones with chrome.

Oh

Chrome grille and bumpers look better, I agree, but if I were to buy one I’d want the later gauge cluster with the LED vacuum meter. I don’t think chrome models had that.

It’s a fantastically quirky car, isn’t it. :D Largeish body on frame car with a 1l 3 cyliner 2 stroke engine, column shifter, front wheel drive, fantastically floaty suspension, etc. As for the name, we used to call them Wartburghinis back in the day. :D

I see panel gaps were a big thing then...

Ditto

I never thought they were THAT ugly, actually....somewhat handsome in a way, to me!
The engine looks very similar to the one from the Syrena...?

They’re both 3 cylinder (early Syrenas had 2 cylinders, but those are fantastically rare) 2 strokes from a similar time I guess. From what I undestand Wartburg engines were much better and nicer to use.

Didn’t know the early models of the Syrena had 2-cyls! I knew the later models had 3 though...they did one on Wheeler Dealers once - one of my favorite episodes!
I have heard that Wartburgs were built to higher standards of quality though...more “luxurious”. Probably why the Polish government and police used them back in the day!
